I really enjoyed being pregnant but as I grew, there came a point when I had enough with living in leggings and baggy clothes. I wanted to wear ‘normal’ clothes to go out in.
So begun my search for the best maternity jeans!
Which Stores Sell Maternity Jeans?
I thought looking for maternity jeans would really narrow it down to a few shops but actually, a lot of retailers have a maternity line.
These are just some of the main high street/online stores, around me in London, that have a maternity line:
ASOS | Next |
Asda George | Primark |
Dorothy Perkins | River Island |
Gap | Sainsbury’s Tu |
H&M | Top Shop |
Mango | Uniqlo |
M&S | Very |
New Look | Zara |
There’s something for everyone here, but I already had my go-to places for lounge wear and essentials – Gap and Uniqlo – and I knew they had a maternity line.
Ultra Stretch Maternity Jeans

Uniqlo had a couple of choices, Jeggings and Skinny Jeans with a full panel over the whole belly.
I bought the Skinny Jeans version because I have a similar pair from Uniqlo in the regular style.

89% Cotton, 7% Polyester, 4% Spandex |
Ultra Stretch denim has the highest amount of stretch for stress-free comfort and unrestricted movement |
Keeps their shape, even after extended wear |
Stretch jersey insert under the waist grows with you through all stages of your pregnancy |
Why They Didn’t Work for Me
Im going to keep this one short – they look nice and the hidden adjustable band is a great idea but they kept sliding down… not because the size was too big for me but the cutting just didn’t fit. It was tight from the knees down and baggy from the waist up. Pulling them every few minutes was not attractive…
But you always have to try, maybe these will work for your body shape but sadly, not mine.
And Then I Found Them!
Gap being denim land, they had lots and lots of choice.
Style of Jeans
Skinny/Jegging |
Girlfriend |
Boyfriend |
Softwear |
Boot and Straight |
Type of Maternity Waist
Inset Panel – looks like you cut out a triangle on both sides at the waist and added elastic fabric |
Demi Panel – wide stretchy waistband under the bump |
Full Panel – completely over the bump |
Since their maternity line is online only it took a few orders and returns to find the right one – the most comfortable jeans I’ll ever wear!
They basically the same as my regular Gap Girlfriend jeans but with the maternity waistband.

Tapered leg opening |
Relaxed fit through the hip and thigh |

Why I Love Them
❤ Really useful for after having baby too because I couldn’t fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes for a good few months and it didn’t look like I was wearing maternity jeans |
Band is wide and soft and acts as a support for a heavy belly |
Because of the Girlfriend style, they weren’t too tight but structured enough to be flattering |
They’re pull ons, which makes things that much easier! |
Gap seem to ALWAYS have a 40% off sale so I never paid full price for any maternity clothes I bought there |
They never slipped down and stayed securely in place |
Final Thoughts
If like me, you already have a favourite brand of jeans, chances are they do them in the maternity version. Otherwise, check out the stores above, have a browse online and short list to go and try them on.
Happy shopping!
